Chocolate Santas

“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”                                                                                                                                                                          Roald Dahl

It was Christmas morning, December 25, 2012, and we’d just finished opening up all of our gifts. My son, Julian, was worried that I didn’t like my presents. I told him that I loved my presents, every single one, but especially the gifts from him.

He shrugged. “Well then, why are you crying?”

“Mommies like to cry sometimes, that’s all,” I explained, simply. “Mommies can be silly that way.”

Julian looked around the Christmas tree, found some chocolate, and said that the chocolate would make it all better.

“Yes,” I agreed, “chocolate always helps.”

“And don’t worry, Mommy, seriously,” Julian added. “I’m sure that God serves candy canes for Christmas up in Heaven. And if not candy canes,” he tilted his head in thought, “then maybe chocolate Santas instead.”

From our family to yours…Happy Holidays, 2017!

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
